The First Epistle of Peter is a book in the New Testament of the Christian Bible generally attributed by the church to Peter when he was the Bishop of Rome. The letter is generally dated around 60 CE - CE. The author describes himself as "Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ" (i.1). Few books of the New Testament are so well attested as this Epistle. The external evidence for its authenticity is strong, and stronger than that for any other Catholic Epistle except 1 John. It seems to be quoted in Didache, i The letter of Polycarp written about A.D.

These Old Testament themes are repeated throughout the book. Poetic Song of Praise. Hope. An excellent short commentary on 1 Peter (in the Tyndale series). I thought the best part was the last 20 pages or so, where the author summarized the entire teaching of the epistle under the following headings/5.

From the beginning, 1 Peter was recognized as authoritative and as the work of the apostle Peter. The earliest reference to it may be 2Pe (see note there), where Peter himself refers to a former letter he had written. 1 Clement (a.d. 95) seems to indicate acquaintance with 1 Peter.

Peter the Apostle The first Epistle of St. Peter, though brief, contains much doctrine concerning Faith, Hope, and Charity, with divers instructions to all persons of what state or condition soever. The Apostle commands submission to rulers and superiors and exhorts all to the practice of a virtuous life in imitation, of Christ. Those whom Peter addressed needed these truths and the practical application.

On the other hand there are many internal evidences which prove that none but Peter wrote this Epistle. It has been pointed out that there is a similarity between Peter's statements in the book of Acts and in this first Epistle.
